COLUMBIA, SC (March 6, 2023) – A Lowcountry lottery winner was going to wait to see how much she won, but her husband told her to go ahead and scratch the rest of that ticket to find out. Neither expected a $500,000 prize.
“Maybe it’s not real,” she thought.
The wife bought the ticket and something to drink at the Circle K on E. Bay St. in Charleston. She didn’t scratch off the prize amount right away. But when she told her husband it was a winner, he told her to keep scratching.
“It still feels surreal,” the wife told South Carolina Education Lottery officials, who caught up with her a month after cashing in the big win.
The couple is saving the prize money for retirement.
The winner overcame odds of 1 in 660,000 to win $500,000 in the $500,000 Multiplier Money game. Two more top prizes remain on the ticket.
Circle K #2721521 in Charleston received a commission of $5,000 for selling the claimed ticket.
