Upstate Man’s Early Morning Outing Ends with $300,000 Lottery Win

COLUMBIA, SC (January 6, 2023) – The saying “the early bird gets the worm” holds true for an Upstate lottery player. Early one morning he brought home a lottery ticket to scratch and won $300,000.

He says he woke up his still sleeping wife with the exciting news.

“She didn’t believe me,” the winner told South Carolina Education Lottery officials. “I guess she was in disbelief. I broke down in tears.”

The husband says he got up early that morning to go to the grocery store and went across the street to Harry’s Quick Stop at 6522 White Horse Rd. in Greenville to cash in a small winning lottery ticket.  His decision to buy another ticket while he was there paid off big.

The couple has already spoiled their kids and grandkids and plan to save the rest of their winnings for retirement.

The winner overcame odds of 1 in 900,000 to win $300,000 in the Cash Flurry game. Two more top prizes remain on the ticket.

Harry’s Quick Stop in Greenville received a commission of $3,000 for selling the claimed ticket.
