COLUMBIA, SC (November 1, 2019) – A Charleston man is retiring early after winning $1 million from the South Carolina Education Lottery.
“I’m quitting my job,” he said.
He found out yesterday that a non-winning lottery ticket he’d entered online was selected from the more than 680,000 entries received in the Carolina Millions Second-Chance Promotion to win a $1 million prize.
“I texted my wife to ‘Call me,’” he said. “She didn’t, so I texted her ‘$1 Million.’”
She called after that second text.
“I’ll keep working,” she told lottery officials today in Columbia, while the couple was waiting to collect their $1 million winnings.
Her husband turned to her and said, “LOL.”
To date, the South Carolina Education Lottery has created 190 millionaires.
