COLUMBIA, SC (August 31, 2012) – A retired Winnsboro father and his adult daughter take one day a week and spend it together. Every Tuesday they meet and ride around town buying lottery tickets.
Last week’s drive was one of their most memorable.
A stop at the Gas Express on Two Notch Rd. in Columbia ended with the father scratching a $10 The Color of Money instant ticket to win $200,000. His daughter is the only one he told.
“She is my world,” he said seated across from her at the Columbia Claims Center.
“I’m just happy for him,” his daughter spoke. “He deserves this.”
The two have been hesitant to tell Mom about the ticket, afraid she would be as anxious as they’ve felt. Now certain the ticket is golden they are telling her that Dad beat the 1 in 440,000 odds to win $200,000.
“I feel lucky all the time,” the winner admitted.
“The tickets I bought didn’t win anything,” said the daughter, so their Tuesday tradition continues.
The odds of winning $200,000 playing $10 The Color of Money are 1 in 440,000. As of this release, four top prizes of $200,000 remain in the game.
For selling the claimed ticket, Gas Express in Columbia received a commission of $2,000.
Since the start of the Lottery in 2002, more than one million college scholarships and grants have been awarded to South Carolina’s students. In all, more than $2.8 BILLION has been transferred to support educational programs in the Palmetto State.
