COLUMBIA, SC (February 8, 2024) – A Gaffney Powerball® winner hasn’t spent a dollar of the $100,000 he won right before Christmas.
“I’m still hanging on to it,” he told South Carolina Education Lottery officials, who caught up with him recently. “It was a big shock.”
The winner says he only buys a lottery ticket when the jackpot gets high, and on the night of December 20 the pot had swelled to over half-a-billion dollars. So he decided to take a chance on a quick pick at the Corner Stop #122 at 3508 Union Hwy. in Gaffney.
When he checked the Powerball® with PowerPlay® ticket after the drawing, he couldn’t believe what he was seeing. All but one number matched (27, 35, 41, 56, 60 and PB: 16). The odds of that happening are nearly 1 in a million.
“I’m still shocked,” he said.
For selling the claimed ticket, Corner Stop #122 in Gaffney received a commission of $1,000.
