Columbia, SC: On June 11, 2002, the South Carolina Education Lottery (SCEL) will be prohibited from selling lottery tickets. This notice is in conjunction with the Education Lottery Act, Section 59-150-210.
E) A lottery ticket or share must not be sold on the date of any general or primary election; for a lottery game other than that defined in Section 59-150-20(7); or for a lottery game with corporate sponsorship.
The SCEL will also shut down its gaming system to prevent any on-line sales of Pick 3 or instant ticket validations.
“This is one way we can assure both the SCEL and its retailers can fully comply with the law”, says SCEL Executive Director Ernie Passailaigue. “However, players can still place their wagers on advance play for Tuesday daily Pick 3 drawing”.
The Education Lottery Act Section 59-150-210 (E) does not prohibit the SCEL from conducting a draw on election days. Pick 3 players can continue to bet their numbers on Monday, June 10, 2002 until Midnight.
