COLUMBIA, SC (October 27, 2023) – What a Midlands man guessed was a $1,000 winning lottery ticket was much, much more.
In a hurry when he bought the $20 ticket at the City Gas & Fuel on Fish Hatchery Rd. in Lexington, he scratched off the barcode and scanned it using the store’s ticket checker. When the message said to “Claim at Lottery”, he figured he’d won $1,000.
Later at home, he scratched off the entire ticket and realized he’d won $2 MILLION.
“I was shocked,” he told South Carolina Education Lottery officials. “I didn’t know what to do. I started pacing around the house with the ticket.”
The millionaire says life isn’t going to change much for him. “I’m still working,” he said. “But, I’m not going to struggle anymore.”
The winner beat the 1 in 1,260,000 odds to leave six more top prizes of $2 million remaining in the Millionaire’s Club game.
For selling the claimed ticket, City Gas & Fuel in Lexington received a commission of $20,000.
