COLUMBIA, SC (May 29, 2025) – A Midlands couple’s stop for burgers led them to a $100,000 lottery win.
Before leaving the Burger King parking lot, the husband told his wife he was going to run inside the convenience store next door.
“I asked him to get me two of the pink tickets,” the wife said. “They are my favorite.”
She scratched the $3 Lady Jumbo Bucks Crossword tickets from the Pitt Stop #2 on Broad River Rd. in Irmo in their car. “I thought I won $1,000,” she said.
On the way home, she counted the words on her ticket again and realized she had missed one. The scratch-off was actually worth $100,000. “I about jumped out of my skin,” she said.
In total, she uncovered 11 words on the ticket to take the top prize win.
“I was overwhelmed with joy,” she told South Carolina Education Lottery officials.
The couple is planning to spend the win on home improvements.
The odds of winning $100,000 playing the $3 Lady Jumbo Bucks Crossword game are 1 in 600,000. This game is no longer available.
For selling the claimed ticket, Pitt Stop #2 in Irmo received a commission of $1,000.
