COLUMBIA, SC (June 1, 2026) – A Bluffton woman stopped at Publix for the BOGO cat food and won a $1 million lottery prize.
“I was really tired, but I needed to get the cat food before the buy one, get one sale ended,” she told South Carolina Education Lottery officials.
She says it was her first time in the grocery store on May River Crossing. After paying for the cat food, she only had a few minutes left to buy a couple of lottery tickets before the store closed.
She scratched the tickets when she got home.
“I couldn’t believe it,” she told South Carolina Education Lottery officials, when she saw one of them was worth $1 million
“If someone would have been in line in front of me, I might not have been able to get the tickets,” she said.
The millionaire says she is amazed at how everything worked out. As for her plans for the win, she is going to keep it a secret and stay thrifty.
“And I’m not telling anyone that I won,” she said.
Odds of winning $1 million in the Millionaire Bonus game are 1 in 1,500,000. One more $1 million prize remains in the game.
Publix Super Markets Inc #1714 in Bluffton received a commission of $10,000 for selling the claimed ticket.
