COLUMBIA, SC (May 22, 2019) – This May, students across the Palmetto State are graduating with the support of lottery-funded financial aid.

Recent Midlands Technical College graduate Bethany Marvin shared her inspiring story of how Lottery Tuition Assistance allowed her to further her education and fulfill her dream to become a registered nurse.

“As the mother of three small children, I knew my journey through the classes, exams and clinical rounds would not be an easy one, but I was determined from the start to succeed,” Marvin said. “To fit the needs of my family’s busy schedule, some semesters I would go part-time and some full time, but focused study and exposure to new skills was a constant.”

“Our one income family experienced the first hand challenges of stretching our budget to afford my classes. Being awarded Lottery Tuition Assistance was crucial in helping me to complete my studies and receive my nursing degree. I am grateful for lottery-funded financial aid and the many opportunities it brings students across the state,” she said.

Marvin’s story is just one of the more than 812,000 scholarships awarded to students in the S.C. Technical College System since 2002.
