COLUMBIA, SC (May 2, 2019) – An Anderson 18-year-old has won a $125,000 playing the South Carolina Education Lottery.
The teen’s friends and family thought he was joking when he called them with the news.
“None of them believed me,” he told lottery officials in Columbia this week.
That’s when he decided to text his friends and family a picture of the winning ticket he’d purchased from the Whitner Street GroceryAnderson. The first number he scratched was a match, winning him the $125,000 top prize.
“I went in the store to get something to drink and then decided to buy a lottery ticket,” he explained.
As for the young man’s plans for prize money, “I think I’ll buy a house and a car,” he said.
Three top prizes of $125,000 remain in the ($5) $125,000 Bonus Play game, at odds of 1 in 750,000.
For selling the claimed ticket, Whitner Street Grocery in Anderson received a commission of $1,250.
