COLUMBIA, SC (February 15, 2024) – A Midlands man thought he won $1,000, but when he went to cash in his lottery ticket, he found out it was worth way more than that. He really won $200,000.
“I was floored,” the winner told South Carolina Education Lottery officials.
He used the ticket checker at the Lottery’s Claims Center to see how much he won. When he saw $200,000 for the first time, his eyes got big. The Crossword X-tra Play ticket he purchased at the Discount Beer and Tobacco on the Augusta Hwy. in Lexington surprised him with a top prize win.
Lottery officials asked him if he would like to sit down, but he says he couldn’t.
“This will help me out a lot, more than you know,” he said.
For selling the claimed ticket, Discount Beer and Tobacco in Lexington received a commission of $2,000.
Five top prizes of $200,000 remain in the Crossword X-tra Play game at odds of 1 in 576,000.
