COLUMBIA, SC (December 19, 2016) – A Charleston man won $250,000 on his lunch break.

The winner says he was eating a sandwich while he scratched off the top prize win on a $10 Emerald 9s scratch-off from the South Carolina Education Lottery.

“I went back to work and didn’t say a thing,” he said.

But he did call his wife, who didn’t believe him when he told her the news.

He’s planning to use the winnings to pay for his children’s college education.

“It’s amazing,” he said.

Two top prizes of $250,000 remain in the $10 Emerald 9s game. The odds of winning $250,000 are 1 in 700,000.

For selling the claimed ticket, Tigers Market in North Charleston received a commission of $2,500.
