Charleston $1 Million Lottery Winner to Bless His Church

3/4/2016 9:04:08 AM

COLUMBIA, SC (March 4, 2016) – A Charleston man who won a $1 million lottery prize will help his church hit hard by the flood.

“I was praying for this,” he said.

He told lottery officials that his hand started itching, telling him money was on its way, after buying a Mega Millions® ticket at the Quick Stop Market on President St. in Charleston.

And that superstition proved true on Tuesday night when he checked his ticket and the first five numbers matched (1, 29, 33, 34, 55 and MB: 6).

“I woke my wife up and told her ‘I’m a winner,’” he said.

She asked how much, but he didn’t know. He can’t believe he’s a millionaire.

“Maybe it will feel real when I have the check in my hand,” he said.

The odds of winning $1 million playing Mega Millions® are about 1 in 18.5 million.

Had the Charleston winner spent the extra $1 for the Megaplier, his prize would have been multiplied to $5 million.

For selling the claimed ticket, Quick Stop Market in Charleston received a commission of $10,000.

The Mega Millions® jackpot for tonight’s drawing is an estimated $144 million.

Good luck, South Carolina!
