COLUMBIA, SC (August 5, 2015) – When he won $200,000 a couple of years ago, a Spartanburg man said he’d win again. And he did, last week cashing in a ticket worth $300,000.
He won playing Palmetto Cash 5. The winning ticket, a quick pick, purchased at the Kangaroo Express in Spartanburg matched all five numbers drawn on July 27 (5, 13, 20, 24, and 38). He Powered-Up for an extra $1 to see his $100,000 win tripled to $300,000.
And while he’s won half-a-million dollars in two years playing the Lottery, he says he’s not a lucky man, only incredibly blessed to have a second chance to get it right.
When his wife found out he won yet again, she had cautionary words for her husband.
“Don’t mess up like you did last time,” she warned.
The winner, who declined to share his name, admits to mistakes made handling the first win. He says he was far too generous with his family and bought things he really didn’t need.
“Trust me, I’m thankful,” he said. “And I’m going to play it smart this time.”
He says that means being debt free with money in savings.
His only splurge: “I’d like go on a cruise and enjoy it without any worries,” he said.
Odds of winning $300,000 playing Palmetto Cash 5 are 1 in 1,606,214.
For selling the claimed ticket, Kangaroo Express in Spartanburg received a commission of $2,000.
