Back-to-Back Midlands Players Win $200,000 on Mega Cash

COLUMBIA, SC (October 8, 2013) – The popularity of the Lottery’s newest $10 scratch-off Mega Cash was on display when two Midlands players came in one right after the other with $200,000 winning tickets.

Mega Cash went on sale Tuesday and both winning tickets were bought two days later, one from a lottery retailer in Columbia the other sold in Orangeburg.

To take the game’s top prize, these winners overcame odds of 1 in 500,000.

A Columbia man was the first to do so after a trip to the AM PM Foodmart 4 on Hardscrabble Rd. Home alone he scratched the ticket and called his wife five times at work before she called him back.

“I couldn’t stop fanning myself,” she said hearing they’d won. “We used to joke about this happening to us.”

The husband says he was blessed to have beaten cancer and now blessed by the Lottery.

The couple plans to start looking for a new home right away.

An Orangeburg woman started shaking when she scratched her winning Mega Cash ticket inside the Quick Pantry #35 on North Rd. and then next day was still jittery. She doesn’t drive on the highway anymore, so she called her son and for a ride to Columbia to cash in the ticket.

“My birthday is coming up and this is a nice present,” she said.

Four top prizes of $200,000 remain in the $10 Mega Cash game. The odds of winning the top prize are 1 in 500,000.

For selling the claimed tickets, both the Quick Pantry #35 in Orangeburg and AM PM Foodmart 4 in Columbia received a commission of $2,000.

To date, lottery play has resulted in more than $3.1 BILLION transferred to support education.
