COLUMBIA, SC (July 25, 2014) – For going on two weeks, a Myrtle Beach couple has been keeping a big secret. They won $1 million in the Lottery.

“We’re going to pretend like nothing happened,” said the wife.

“But we’re tickled to death,” said the husband.

He purchased the winning Powerball® ticket from Haksim Inc. on Hwy 544 in Myrtle Beach for the drawing on Saturday, July 12. The ticket sat out in his truck for several days, until he heard the store had sold a $1 million ticket. He sat at the kitchen table with this wife looking over his shoulder checking the numbers – 2, 3, 7, 23 and 51 PB: 26.

“That’s them!” his wife screamed jumping back from the table. “What do we do? We won! We won!”

They both signed the ticket and decided to wait until they could both be off from work to go together to Columbia to turn the ticket in.

“Winning the Lottery makes you stop and think,” the husband said accepting the check for his winnings. “It humbles me.”

Haksim Inc. in Myrtle Beach received a commission of $10,000 for selling the claimed ticket.

The odds of winning $1 million are 1 in 5,153,633.

Since the start of the Lottery in 2002, more than one million college scholarships and grants have been awarded to South Carolina’s students. In all, more than $3.4 BILLION has been transferred to support educational programs in the Palmetto State.
