Two Months of Buying Lottery Tickets Pays off for Piedmont Couple

COLUMBIA, SC (September 10, 2013) – It must have been a funny sight to see a Piedmont man scramble out of his recliner after learning his Palmetto Cash 5 ticket won him $200,000.

It was late, and his wife was getting ready for bed when she heard the chair in the living room slam close and her husband scream, “We won the lottery.” Seconds later he appeared in their bedroom clutching the winning ticket.

“We’re going to be debt free,” the winner said, so he’s decided not to tell the kids he won.

He’s been playing Palmetto Cash 5 regularly for two months. It was a quick pick (8, 15, 18, 22, and 27) from the QuikTrip #1106 on the Liberty Hwy. in Anderson that matched all five numbers drawn on Saturday, August 31. He matched two numbers on a separate line of the ticket to win $2 for a total prize payout of $200,002.

“This is the first time I’ve ever won anything,” the husband said unable to stop smiling.

“It couldn’t have come at a better time,” his wife said. “We are so grateful.”

Spending the extra buck to Power-Up doubled their $100,000 prize to $200,000.

Odds of winning $200,000 playing Palmetto Cash 5 are 1 in 1,003,884.

For selling the claimed ticket, QuikTrip #1106 received a commission of $2,000.

To date, lottery play has resulted in more than $3.1 billion transferred to support education.
