COLUMBIA, SC (February 9, 2023) – After a trip to the grocery store a Pawleys Island woman rewarded herself with a lottery ticket. That scratch-off paid her right back with a $100,000 win.
She picked out the $3 Lady Jumbo Bucks Crossword ticket before leaving the Publix on Ocean Hwy. 17 in Pawleys Island. When she got home and the groceries were put away, she scratched the ticket.
“I originally thought I won $500,” she told South Carolina Education Lottery officials. But she’d missed a few words on her ticket.
“I didn’t want to jump to conclusions,” she said, so she got out pen and paper and wrote down all the words on the scratch-off that she matched. She counted them and recounted them to be sure it added up to 11 words for a $100,000 prize.
“I love the crossword tickets,” she said after cashing in the ticket.
Her win leaves three top prizes of $100,000 in the Lady Jumbo Bucks Crossword game at odds of 1 in 600,000.
For selling the claimed ticket, Publix Super Markets Inc. #1478 in Pawleys Island received a commission of $1,000.
