COLUMBIA, SC (February 16, 2023) – Friday the 13th was a lucky day for an Upstate man, who won $300,000 playing the South Carolina Education Lottery.

It was also a busy day.

The winner was getting ready to leave on vacation, when he stopped by the Publix on W. Butler Rd. in Mauldin for a bag of ice and bought the winning lottery ticket. He made it to Columbia before the Lottery’s claims center closed, cashed in the ticket, drove back home and then left on his trip.

“I’m debt free,” he said.

The winner overcame odds of 1 in 1,080,000 to leave three top prizes of $300,000 remaining in the $300,000 Gold Rush game.

Publix Super Markets #1012 in Mauldin received a commission of $3,000 for selling the claimed ticket.
