COLUMBIA, SC (July 14, 2022) – Less than 10 minutes after winning the Lottery, a Midlands man was cashing in his $300,000 prize.
The winner, who does not wish to be identified, told South Carolina Education Lottery officials that he picked out the $10 scratch-off at the City Food Mart on N Main St. in Columbia and scratched it in the store’s parking lot.
“I was surprised,” he admitted when looked down and saw he won $300,000.
Next, he says he jumped in his car and drove the six miles to the Lottery’s Claims Center on Assembly Street to get paid.
As for his winnings, he’s spending the cash on a few repairs and investing the rest.
The winner overcame odds of 1 in 900,000 to leave five top prizes of $300,000 remaining in the $300,000 Fun Fortune ticket.
City Food Mart in Columbia received a commission of $3,000 for selling the claimed ticket.
