COLUMBIA, SC (May 19, 2021) – Lottery players in the Midlands should check their tickets. With no winner in Tuesday night’s Mega Millions® drawing, the jackpot for Friday has rolled to its ninth largest ever – $515 million. But not before two Columbia players, who bought tickets at convenience stores 12 minutes apart, came close to winning it all.
A ticket worth $20,000 was sold at the El Cheapo at 2507 Two Notch Rd. in Columbia, and another ticket worth $10,000 was purchased at the Food Mart on 2220 Decker Blvd. in Columbia.
The ticket holders matched four white ball numbers and the gold Megaball® number to win $10,000. The player at the El Cheapo purchased the Megaplier® option for an additional $1 to have their winnings multiplied to $20,000 when a “2” was drawn.
