COLUMBIA, SC (June 7, 2021) – A Hemingway lottery player liked his Powerball® numbers so much that he played them twice. And he won twice too.
Both tickets came within one number of winning the Powerball® jackpot. Each ticket was worth $100,000 for a total prize of $200,000.
“I’m taking a vacation,” the winner told South Carolina Education Lottery officials after his near brush with the jackpot. “I’m going to keep playing those numbers.”
He purchased the tickets at Youngs #3658 on W. Broad St. in Hemingway for the drawing on Saturday, May 22. His numbers matched four of the first five white ball numbers and the red Powerball® number (3 - 19 - 27 - 37 - 40 Powerball®: 8). Adding PowerPlay® doubled the $50,000 winnings to $100,000 on each ticket.
The odds of winning $50,000 playing Powerball® are 1 in 913,129. The odds of a 2X multiplier being selected are 1 in 1.75 when the jackpot is more than $150 million.
For selling the claimed ticket, Youngs #3658 in Hemingway received a commission of $2,000 for selling both Powerball® tickets.
The estimated jackpot for Wednesday’s Powerball® drawing is $20 million.
