Upstate Woman Says $500,000 Lottery Win is “Magical”

COLUMBIA, SC (July 25, 2025) – When an Upstate woman’s husband forgot to buy her some lottery tickets, the wife took matters into her own hands.

On her way home she stopped at the 357 Redi Mart on Hwy. 357 in Lyman and got the tickets she wanted for herself.

“I was standing in line and these bright, shiny and glittery tickets caught my eye,” she said.  “I bought three of them.”

She says the first two tickets didn’t win anything, but the third ticket was the “magical” one. She scratched off a $500,000 top prize win.

“I felt like Jed Clampett when he discovered his bubblin’ crude,” she said.

The Lottery caught up with the winner after cashing in the winning ticket and asked her about her plans for the windfall.

“I’ll have a little fun, take some trips and retirement will come sooner rather than later,” she said.

Odds of winning $500,000 in the Money Madness Extra Play game are 1 in 1,152,000.  One top prize remains in the game.

357 Redi Mart in Lyman received a commission of $5,000 for selling the claimed ticket.
