COLUMBIA, SC (May 8, 2025) – A Lowcountry lottery player got a big surprise when his ticket was checked at the Lottery’s Claims Center in Columbia. He was shocked to learn the scratch-off was worth $75,000!
“It was pretty exciting,” he admitted to South Carolina Education Lottery officials.
He says before making the two hour drive from Hanahan to Columbia, he had the $3 scratch-off checked at the Lowes Foods on Tanner Ford Blvd. He bought the ticket days earlier at the store.
The clerk at the grocery store told him the ticket won more than the $500 the store could pay out, but the clerk didn’t tell him how much more. When he found out the true number at the lottery office, he was stunned and happy.
For now, the winner says he’s saving his five-figure prize.
The odds of winning $75,000 playing Red Hot Bingo are 1 in 660,000. This game is no longer available for sale.
Lowes Foods #279 in Hanahan received a commission of $750 for selling the claimed ticket.
