COLUMBIA, SC (May 23, 2013) – A Kings Mountain, NC, man won $300,000 playing the South Carolina Education Lottery and survived the shock.

“I didn’t have a heart attack,” he said.

His heart skipped a beat when his Palmetto Cash 5 ticket matched all five numbers drawn (10, 12, 15, 19, and 27) on May 9. Spending the extra buck to Power-Up tripled his $100,000 prize to $300,000.

He picked his own numbers, a combination of family birth dates, at the Borderline Mini Mart in Clover and put the ticket aside with five others he planned to check the next time he visited South Carolina.

“I’ve thought a whole lot about what I want to do with the money,” he said. “I haven’t figured anything out yet, but I’m going to keep playing.”

Odds of winning $300,000 playing Palmetto Cash 5 are 1 in 1,606,214.

For selling the claimed ticket, Borderline Mini Mart received a commission of $3,000.

To date, lottery play has resulted in more than $3 billion transferred to support education.
