COLUMBIA, SC (April 12, 2012) – A Greenville man vows to be debt free by the end of the week. His benefactor: a $200,000 winning lottery ticket.
He turned in the winning ticket on Monday, having purchased it over the weekend from the Eagles on Pelham Rd. in Greenville. He scratched the ticket in the store parking lot and saw $200 but later realized his mistake. The ticket was worth a thousand times that.
“I couldn’t stop staring at the ticket,” he confessed, adding he rushed home to scan the ticket into his computer and email a copy to himself.
“I’m real excited,” the winner told lottery officials. “I was glad to see more zeroes.”
As of this release, one top prize of $200,000 remains in the $10 $200,000 Cash Celebration game.
The odds of winning $200,000 are 1 in 456,000.
Eagles in Greenville received a commission of $2,000 for selling the claimed ticket.
Since the start of the Lottery in 2002, more than one million college scholarships and grants have been awarded to South Carolina’s students. In all, more than $2.7 BILLION has been transferred to support educational programs in the Palmetto State.
