COLUMBIA, SC (March 27, 2025) – A Walterboro lottery player got quite a surprise when he finally got around to checking his lottery ticket. He’d left the scratch-off in his car for a few days before discovering it was worth $200,000.
“Something told me to get it checked,” he told South Carolina Education Lottery officials.
But he says he never expected the store clerk at the Speedy Express on 305 S. Jefferies Blvd. in Walterboro to tell him he would have to take that $5 ticket to Columbia to be paid. That’s when he knew he was a top prize winner.
“It’s hard to put into words how I felt,” he said.
Since the win, he has purchased a car and a place to live.
“It’s changed my life,” he said
The odds of winning $200,000 in the Poker Night game are 1 in 870,000. One more top prize remains in the game.
For selling the claimed ticket, Speedy Express in Walterboro received a commission of $2,000.
