COLUMBIA, SC (July 17, 2024) For the fourth straight year, the South Carolina Education Lottery is announcing it has raised more than half-a-billion dollars for education.

South Carolina’s students will benefit from a transfer of $592 million in lottery funds for Fiscal Year 2024. This brings the Lottery’s total funding for education to $8.3 BILLION since startup in 2002.

“I am incredibly pleased that the Lottery is making a significant contribution to education for the upcoming year,” said the Lottery’s Executive Director Dolly Garfield. “Our streak of $500 million plus transfers to the Education Lottery Account is a testament to the commitment of our entire lottery team, hardworking retailers, loyal players and the Lottery Board of Commissioners.”

An unprecedented five, multi-state jackpots that topped over a billion dollars and the addition of a new rolling jackpot to South Carolina’s own Palmetto Cash 5 game all contributed to the Lottery’s year-end results.

FY 2024 also saw lottery players win more than $1.6 billion in prize money and lottery retailers earned in excess of $168 million in commissions.

Chairman of the SC Lottery Commission, Sam Litchfield adds, “On behalf of the Board, we are proud of the Lottery’s continued success.  These funds will guarantee that South Carolina is a great place to earn an education, live and work.”

Lottery proceeds are deposited into the Education Lottery Account, from which the General Assembly makes appropriations in support of higher education scholarships and grants, K-12 public education programs and community education programs throughout the state.
