COLUMBIA, SC (June 9, 2022) – Two Upstate lottery players won big under similar circumstances.
A Spartanburg man won $300,000 on his way to work, while a Greenville man won $200,000 on his way home from work.
The Lottery shared the Spartanburg winner’s story earlier in the week. He says he went to work after winning on a ticket at the VIMLA Inc. store on the Asheville Hwy. He plans to put the $300,000 in prize money toward retirement.
The Greenville winner stopped for a lottery ticket at the Quick Stop on N. Main St. after he got off work. He says he looked at the ticket 10 times before believing he won. He went home to show his wife. He explained to her how to play, and then he covered the prizes on the ticket with a piece of paper. When he slid the paper down to reveal his $200,000 prize to her, she almost fainted.
“I was numb for a couple of days,” the winner admitted to lottery officials. “It’s a nice cushion. I can save for my kid’s college and do some stuff around the house.”
For selling the claimed Payday Bonus Play ticket, Quick Stop in Greenville received a commission of $2,000. Two more top prizes remain in the game at odds of 1 in 900,000.
