COLUMBIA, SC (April 8, 2022) – Saturday’s Powerball® jackpot is an estimated $268 million. In South Carolina, a Myrtle Beach man nearly won it recently.
His ticket matched all but one number drawn back on March 26, giving him a $150,000 prize.
“I’m out shopping right now,” the winner told lottery officials, who caught up with him after cashing in the winning ticket.
He says he bought the ticket, a quick pick, at the Food Lion on S. Kings Hwy. in Myrtle Beach, and then lost it. His wife found it in a pocket, and when he realized how much they won decided to surprise her. He told her the ticket was worth $50,000.
“I waited until I had the check, and then I showed her,” he said.
He matched four of the first five white ball numbers and the red Powerball® number (2 - 10 - 50 - 59 - 61 and PB: 6) drawn on Saturday, March 26. Paying an extra dollar for PowerPlay® tripled his $50,000 win to $150,000.
The odds of winning $50,000 playing Powerball® are 1 in 913,129. The odds of a 3X multiplier being selected are 1 in 3.23 when the jackpot is more than $150 million.
For selling the claimed ticket, Food Lion #427 in Myrtle Beach received a commission of $1,500.
