COLUMBIA, SC (May 27, 2021) – A Columbia lottery player had a feeling he was going to win big and his intuition was spot on.
He bought a ticket at a downtown convenience store and won $300,000.
“I was surprisingly calm,” he told South Carolina Education Lottery officials, describing his reaction to the windfall.
The winner says he purchased a $10 Carolina Bonus Cash ticket at the Shiv Food Mart #10 at 831 Harden St. in Columbia and scratched it while walking to his car. He turned around and went back inside to scan the ticket on the store’s ticket checker to be doubly sure he won the top prize.
“I’m going to fund my kid’s college funds and save a lot,” he said.
The winner overcame odds of 1 in 668,571.43 to leave three top prizes of $300,000 remaining in the Carolina Bonus Cash game.
Shiv Food Mart #10 in Columbia received a commission of $3,000 for selling the claimed ticket.
