COLUMBIA, SC (June 21, 2024) – An Upstate man is closer to retirement after winning $2 million playing the South Carolina Education Lottery.
“It’s so weird,” the millionaire told South Carolina Education Lottery officials, describing how it happened.
He says he was driving down Holly Springs Rd. in Lyman, when a lucky feeling led him to stop at the Exxon to buy a $20 lottery ticket. He scratched it and immediately called his wife.
“I told her, ‘You won’t believe what happened,’” he said.
And she’s the only person he's told about the windfall.
“I’m not going to let it change me,” he said. “But I’m ready to retire.”
The winner beat the 1 in 1,460,000 odds to leave four more top prizes of $2 million remaining in the 200X The Cash game.
For selling the claimed ticket, Hare Pritam 2018 Inc. in Lyman received a commission of $20,000.
